Birthday present: Garland! Crocheted bunting with free pattern

garland

A while back my sister-in-law and her son had their birthday.

They have their birthday on the same day, how great is that! That was an awesome birthday present 11 years ago 🙂

For my Sister-in-law I made a little present:

a birthday garland!

I crocheted this garland with a self-designed pattern, the pattern is described below.

Very merry, lots of bunting to make every room a happy place 🙂

And they are not at all hard to make!

I created this pattern myself, although it is completely possible that this pattern was created by someone else also. (They are simple triangular shapes, how many variations could there be, right?)

(Hmmm, perhaps I should look into that, could be more than I think!)

Okay, pattern time:

You crochet a chain of 16 chainstitches

1: 15 single crochets, 1 chainstitch (15)

2: chrochet the first 2 and the last 2 stitches together, 11 single crochets inbetween (13), 1 chainstitch

3: 13 single crochets , 1 chainstitch

4: chrochet the first 2 and the last 2 stitches together, 9 single crochets inbetween (11), 1 chainstitch

5: 11 single crochets, 1 chain stitch

6: chrochet the first 2 and the last 2 stitches together, 7 single crochets inbetween (9), 1 chainstitch

7: 9 single crochets, 1 chain stitch

8: chrochet the first 2 and the last 2 stitches together, 5 single crochets inbetween (7), 1 chainstitch

9: 7 single crochets, 1 chain stitch

10: chrochet the first 2 and the last 2 stitches together, 3 single crochets inbetween (5), 1 chainstitch

11: 5 single crochets, 1 chain stitch

12: chrochet the first 2 and the last 2 stitches together, 1 single crochets inbetween (3), 1 chainstitch

13: 3 single crochets, 1 chain stitch

14: chrochet the first 2 stitches together, 1 single crochets inbetween (2), 1 chainstitch

15: finish the work by crocheting the last 2 stitches together.

And there is your bunting!

I made 9 little flags for my garland, but you can make the garland as big or small as you want.

To connect the bunting I first crocheted (in white yarn) 50 chainstitches, and then crocheted each flag to the line with single crochets. Between two flags in the garland there are 10 chainstitches. At the end of the garland I crocheted another 50 chainstitches.

All finished!

Maybe I’ll make one of these garlands for myself, it looks so pretty and bright 🙂
