Making soap at a children’s party

Making soap at Davina’s party

Last monday was a great day for Davina: It was time for her birthday party!

She and her mom invited me to make soaps with her and four of her friends.

It was so much fun!

All ladies went home with a bag full of little soaps.

Here you can see some pictures of the party:

At first, some explanation about the soap, the scents and coloring, and the various soap molds.

And then: to work! Melting the soap, adding scent and color of choice, and pour the soap into the molds!

The hardest part is the waiting fot the soap to set…

unfortunately I forgot to make a picture of the result. Actually, I forgot to make pictures all together, luckily Davina’s mom made these photo’s you see here (thanks!!)

During the wait for the soaps to harden the girls decorated labels for their soap bag, and chose a gift from the grabbag.

This party was awesome!

New designs on my Etsy page, perfect for winter!

This week I added four new designs to my Etsy page.

These files are designed for cutting machines like the SIlhouette Cameo or Cricut, but they are also suited for window chalk designs or to print yourself a pretty poster.

You know what, I will show you the files:

This Merry Christmas design would look fabulous on a window, in a scrapbook, or even drawn on a card with the Silhouette Cameo pen function.

These three Christmas Season quotes could be perfect on your door, in chalk or vinyl. They will also do great on a scrapbook or on a card.

This design is one of my favourites! Perhaps I will put this one on my window for the winter season.

And I also love how this one turned out, snowflakes on a string 🙂 This could be a beautiful window decal! The snowflakes can also be used without the strings.

Perhaps there is something here to your liking, in that case, look at my Etsy shop, and come back here for more designs in the future!

unicorn

Unicorn themed birthday party

My daughter Marijke turned 8 in october, and she wanted a unicorn themed birthday party.

That can be arranged 🙂

So we went out and looked for unicorn themed items, such as diadems, balloons, stickers, lots of stuff!

Last week it was finally here: party-time!

We made a unicorn shaped pinata for the party. This is not difficult, all you need is old boxes, tinfoil for the horn, crepe paper, and a glue gun. And treats to fill the pinata of course!

I used THIS and THIS site as examples to make our unicorn. Unfortunately I didn’t make any pictures of the DIY process, but I do have pictures of the result:

It’s a cutie, right?!

I love how it turned out. Almost a shame to smash it. Almost, because smashing is fun 😉

Shouldn’t you be a DIY-er; Pinata’s are for sale in various (internet) shops.

At the party we looked for a treasure (with unicorn diadems in it), we did some watercoloring, decorated a cupcake (and ate it, nomnomnom) and we made unicorn slime (with glitters!).

Smashing the pinata was a lot of fun. Next time I will make the pinata a bit less sturdy, it took quite some time to smash it. Although this was also an advantage, as everyone could have a go at it 🙂

Hitting the pinata with a blindfold was difficult, so we removed it and hit it like we meant it!

One of her friends brought a party popper (with confetti in it) that she wanted to use after the pinata was broken. This was also a lot of fun!

It was a very merry party, everybody had lots of fun!

Now we will wait and see what she wants her theme to be next year 🙂

Felted a crocheted bag, love the effect!

I was in a yarn shop the other day, where I saw a curious looking bag.

It appeared it was a crocheted bag that was felted afterwards.

Look, here’s an example I found on another blog:

vervilten

I really love this effect and wanted to try it myself.

For this purpose I bought the Big Delight Atlantis yarn from Drops.

It is very important that you use wool, other yarn types (acryl, cotton) will not felt.

The bag I made has a very simple design. You just crochet a big rectangle that you fold over 1,5 times. That makes the front, back and flap. You also crochet a long thin strip that will become the sides of the bag and the handle. The long strip is connected to the front and back of the bag with single crochets.

vervilten

Below you see the bag I crocheted, before I felted it.

I only used single crochets. You can make the bag as big or small as you want. Just remember that the felting process reduces the size of the bag by 15-30%, so you need to make the bag bigger than you want it to become after the felting.

Before felting, my bag was 40 cm wide, 25 cm high and the flap was 14 cm high. I used about 2,5 skeins.

vervilten

This wool has a beautiful pattern!

I added two buttonhooks, which I made by crocheting a row of chainstitches and adding a row of single crochets.

vervilten

The felting process is super simple, you just put the bag in the washing machine on a program of choice, at about 40-60 degrees Celcius. That’s it!

Are you curious how the bag turned out?

Here it is:

vervilten

I’m superpleased with it, and think it worked out great.

The bag became thicker and sturdier by the felting, and is very suitable as a bag (even for heavier goods).

vervilten

I absolutely love the color pattern!

vervilten

This picture shows the back of the bag.

After felting the bag is 28 cm wide, 22 cm high and the flap is 10,5 cm. It shrunk quite a bit, about 15-30% (depending where you measure), exactly the amout that was predicted!

I also bought 3 skeins of Drops Big Delight Lava, and I’m still working on which felting project  want to make next.Perhaps another bag?

I wish you a nice day!

Creative children’s birthday party

Handlettering workshop

Recently I gave a handlettering workshop at a children’s party.

During the handlettering workshop at the ladiesfair there were a lot of kids that enjoyed handlettering.

One girl liked it so much that she asked me if I would host het children’s party. Sure! I would like that!

Children’s party

At the end of last month it was party time: Astrid’s birthday party. And it was a lot of fun!

Together with Astrid and her mom we decided to give a creative party with Handlettering and Slime making.

In the handlettering workshop we practised letters, and made a bunch of lettering creativeness, and after that we played with gooey gooey slime!

As you might know, slime making is huge nowadays, and the internet is full of slime making recipies.

The party was a lot of fun. The children also liked it, next saturday I’m giving another creative birthday party for a girl who was on Astrid’s party. I’m excited!

New Halloween designs on my Etsy page

Hi!

Did you know I have an Etsy shop?

My Etsy shop Craftstudio27 is specialized in digital designs for cutting machines such as the Silhouette Cameo or the Cricut.

This week I added three more designs to my shop.

These new designs are all Halloween themed. If you click on the designs you will automatically go the design on Etsy:

The one above is a landscape Halloween decoration. It’s 10,6 x 26,4 inches, perfect for cutting machines. This design will make a cool window or wall decal!

The witches design will also make a cool window or wall decal. Also, for the crafty among you, it can also become a nice card design!

The design below is my favorite 🙂

It’s a Zombie hand with the quote “Zombielicious”. He ate his fingers! I find that very funny 🙂 (but that could just be my weird sense of humor)

New designs will be posted soon, I’ll keep you informed!
